Has anyone put in place a system to transport parts from state to state? Parts that are not easily ship-able or the seller doesn't want to deal with shipping (local pickup only)? I have found some interior parts in FL that are needed in OR. It was suggested by the seller to see if there might be folks traveling to various rallies or other events (or just traveling) that could relay a part from the east to the west. I'm curious if such a system exists already.

I've had help moving half of a dinette from Tennessee to Albuquerque, and a Zip Dee patio awning from Tennessee to California. Chuck Boyd took it upon himself to post on the GMCnet for me and we lucked out. Thanks Chuck! Guy was flying into Virginia picking up his GMC and driving to California, swung by Chuck's and the GMC Freight Express took over.

It definitely would be useful to have a sub forum where people could post what they have and where and where it needs to go. Kind of like a college's ride board.

It's been done. I once picked up a set of 16" steel wheels in Tucson, another guy delivered them as far as Lake Havasu, then another guy took them to Long beach to have them shipped to Australia.

Another time, I picked up a Honda generator and delivered it as far as San Antonio, where the eventual receiver was going to come from Houston to pick it up. He said he would buy me a steak dinner the next time he saw me. He didn't.

It can be pretty inconvenient, depending on the size of the items being delivered.

One time I dragged a bunch of interior pieces on the rear hitch carrier, to the NC rally. I transferred them to Mike Sadlon, he drove them down to Sirum's in FL and shipped them out west (WY?)on a pallet with a bunch of other parts to a customer.

Ah, taxonomy! I'm careful about adding subforums (subfora!), because the more of them there are the harder it can be to pick one, so I tend to think more in terms of logical groupings:

We have an existing subforum called 'Everything Toad' that gets some traffic but is underutilized. The current description is "Towing, getting towed (coach transport), driveaway services, towed vehicles/tow bars/braking systems, hitches, roadside assistance, etc."

If I changed the subforum name to "Towing and Transport" and revised the description I think it would cover the parts bucket brigade concept. It also might make sense to move the subforum from the 'Maintenance, Repairs, and Technical' section to the 'Traveling In and Using Your Coach' section, and I could actually change the name of the section itself to something fun like 'On the Road Again' with a short description as a subtitle.

What do you think? Alternative suggestions welcome :)

Very frequently replies branch off into totally different topics from the original post. Having a drop down list of the most common subjects/tags for each new post, and every reply, would help categorize the information. It would take but a couple of seconds. I'm sure people here would do their part to help keep the information organized. It's to everyone's benefit.

My take is that good search tools and eventually AI chatbots 😉 make the extra tagging/categorization effort unnecessary. Besides, we humans are pretty lazy as a general observation. Witness the number of newbies (esp on Facebook) who ask the same questions over and over rather than using search for a better/faster result.
 
One easy, if not lowest cost is the UPS store.
I had found some unobtanium 1929 dodge parts ( doors ) in Pittsburgh, I called the local UPS store, they picked them up, packaged them, Shrink wrapped on a pallet, and ship them. Price was about 1/2 the 3-4 days of me driving there. They shipped to my companies loading dock.

"Everything Toad" subforum renamed to "Towing and Transport" and moved to the "On the Road Again" (also renamed) section. Descriptions updated. Moved this thread to Towing and Transport.
