Broken shocks

I just discovered that all four rear shocks on my '77 Palm Beach are
broken. Yep, destroyed. The leading rears each have broken mounting
bolts; the two aft rears are each hanging in two halves (came apart in
the middle). What might cause something like this? I've owned this rig
only since last November so don't have a clue.

And where's the best (cheapest) place to buy new Bilsteins?

Thanks a bunch.
