On careful examination it appears that when the lucite rod was heated to form into the handle, it resulted in slightly flattened rounded ends.
I tried to take pictures but could not get a good image.
Using a micrometer the opening is 1" and the Lucite rod shows is 1/16" wider on one side on both ends, obviously where they applied pressure to form the bend
If I tried to insert the rod as-as the mount would eventually crack...unless the flatness does not extend beyond the tip
I'm going to round the ends and try that
By using a file and sanding block I was able to round the flattened out to round again.
They fit nice and snug now
Looks good! I wired in a separate switch for mine and replaced the incandescent bulb with an LED. That way I can light it up when I'm not plugged in and use very little battery power.
