Emery, et al:

Thanks for sharing the efforts of your research. Bear with me as this =
is a
"long one".

It prompted me to look in "my" GMCnet e-mail archives. I did find some
information that is interesting. For one thing, it looks like Jasper =
has
raised their price by about $600.00 since last October. On the other =
hand,
it also looks like they increased their warranty by 25,000 miles. =
However,
the warranty will more than likely time out at 3 years, well ahead of =
the
maximum mileage one would accumulate on their coach. So on second =
thought,
the Jasper increased mileage warranty is not an advantage to us.

Is there any Machine work done to the 455; e.g., rods, line boring =
etc.?
Does this include the oil restrictor's, valve rotators etc.? Thanks for =
more
information! Chuck

Here is a response to a request for a price on a remanufactured 455 CI
engine for my GMC which I sent to Jasper. Thought it might be of use to =
some
folks.

Per your request the following information applies:

This engine is going to be remanufactured back to or exceeding =
OEM.
specifications. It will consist of the remanufactured block, heads, =
cam,
crank, and rods. It has a standard set of new internal parts that =
include:
pistons, rings, bearings, lifters, valves, valve springs, and timing
components. Included with the engine will be the oil pump, oil pan, =
and the
timing cover. These are already installed on the engine for you.

After the engine is built-up, we then LIVE RUN TEST it at the
factory to make sure that it is going to be running properly when you
receive it. We actually pour the fluids in and run it for =BD hour to =
45
minutes. While it is running we run checks on oil pressure, vacuum, =
and
compression. We also check it for any leaks or noises. This JASPER
complete engine will be backed with a 3 YEAR / 50,000 MILE WARRANTY. =
This
warranty covers PARTS AND LABOR and is good NATIONWIDE. The price on =
your
1974 GMC Motorhome 455 cid carb engine is $2434.00 exchange. If you =
would
like to get this engine on order, or if you have any further questions
please call my sales department at 1-800-827-7455. Thank you

Jasper's run in test must be recent. One of our GMC SS members had =
Golby
install a Jasper and it overheated on the way home. Turned out Jasper =
had
used head gaskets for a 403 ci on the 455 ci!

If there is anyway for you to get it home I would keep the engine Emory.
Pack it into the crate that jasper sends the new one in and have it shipped
yellow freight.

Emery,
I was in Sandusky yesterday (Saturday, June 19) to snoop around
Buskrik's and Cinnabar's lots. I do that from time to time to get
ideas on what to do with my GMC. It's convenient for me to drive
by because we have a cottage on Lake Huron about 20 miles from
Sandusky.

To make a long story short, I saw a GMC in a service bay at
Buskirk's with New Mexico plates and a "M" spare tire cover.
Was that yours? If so, I hope they are getting ready to install
your new engine soon. Seems like if it was going to take a while
they would have pushed it out into the lot.

Anyway, good luck with the new engine,
