Boost Solenoid

G'day,

The boost solenoid on the Kingsley is badly rusted and someone used a coarse threaded nut on one of the the fine threaded 5/16 power connections.

I checked the GMCMI parts list and got the correct part number ECH ST80 but was wondering if it would be better to get one that is rated at higher
amperage?

Rob,

That one is rated at 80 continues and 200 inrush. The only others I could find that were only rated at 200/600 and were Cole/Hersee and somewhat more
expensive. For as much as it gets used, I pretty sure I wouldn't bother.

Bob,
When it comes to high amp, I would neve go lower than what the factory
called out for. It will work, but cannot determin for how long depending on
usage.
As usual, should yo have any issue aquirig one, we have them in stock

I ended up buying this one: https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/ECHST80

There are some cheaper suggestions in that threat from Amazon, but the Napa store near me had it and I was cleaning up my wiring, so I went ahead and
purchsed that. Mine was really old and the posts were loose. I definitely noticed a significant difference in operation of the Boost, between my old
one and the Napa one.

1977 Kingsley 455 as stock as it gets except lots of Ragusa parts
 
I had to replace my booster solenoid a couple of weeks ago. While I was testing the Intellitec Battery Disconnect I found I had voltage on both sides
of the solenoid. Found a new in the box Echlin st80 on e-bay. I have no idea how long I was running with all the batteries connected. Put on the new
solenoid and all is well.

That's kind of funny. Maybe he means with one batt disconnected? I cut this board 3 times and it's still too short!

Thanks John. That is what I ment.
When I disconnected the cables from one side of the solenoid I still had voltage to both sides. A new solenoid fixed the problem.

Thanks for stepping in Bruce. I don't want anyone to through away a good solenoid because what I typed. I have no idea how long the solenoid had been
shorted across but all is OK now.

Looks good Rob, I especially like the weatherproof covering.
I ended going with the Cole-Hersee. I like the silver tungsten contacts on the inside. Mine says made in Mexico..........better than China, I
think...
