Talk to me. Could you notice any difference in performance?

Arch,
I have used electric chokes for about 13 years now on many different
cars. The aftermarket ones for Holleys, Edelbrock etc are designed for
warm climates where we don't have to deal with below zero starts. I
love "em. Never had a failure. I have had a problem with blocking off
the crossover passages. Seems it tends to act like an equalizer tube on
an exhaust system. In one particular vehicle, it would bog slightly off
the line the pick up & behave. I tried everything from increasing the
pump shot to adding more timing, all to no avail. The vehicle had 2.5
in exhaust with free flowing mufflers. As soon as I added the balance
pipe, all the problems went away. In looking at the GMC exhaust, I'm
not sure that this would be a problem as the tail pipe joins the the two
mufflers together so close to the engine. Then again, balance pipes go
ahead of the mufflers, about 3 inches after the collectors. If you opt
to keep the manifold crossover passage open, make sure you epoxy the
well plugs on your QJet. This should prevent "perking" problems. A
good electric fuel pump will also help. Everyone seems to like the
Carters, I use the Mallory exclusively. Very, very quiet & the model I
use has an internal regulator that gets along well with 5-7 lb QJet
pressure requirements. A mounting hint is to use Peujot (SP) muffler
mounting grommets. They isolate the pump from the frame & last forever.
