My 77 Kingsley has the typical black/chrome beltline moldig. However, the chrome is nearly nonexistent, and flaked off in most areas. As well the adheive was letting go. I think may have posted about ths before now that I think about it. Its funny, you post on different forums and talk to people etc, you can;t remember who you told what and where!

Anyway, I was thinking about just slapping some black paint on the old molding and putting it back on. But I imagine that won't look great. But buying new replacement is expenmsive for what it is. I know many people just paint it body color and call it good.

However, as I was cleaning that strip of raised aluminum from all the old adhesive and flaking off paint, I brought a section of it down to bare aluminum. When we restored our old 59 Shasta, it had a Z stripe of bare aluminum. I was wondering, have you ever seen anyone strip and polish their beltline molding to bare aluminum only? I thought that may look good, but I don't believe I have ever seen a GMC with that look before?

Anyone?

some of the restorers have taken the old metal/rubber belt line trim off and replaced with a 2" wide aluminum strip, the same length of the original. The old belt line was screwed on under the rubber bumper strips.
I'm not sure if the newer models changed over to glued versions but you said you had glue come loose so don't know what you have,
Mine has Stainless steel with the rubber inset along the strip, there is no chrome to flake off.
Maybe someone painted yours???? just a guess.
good luck.

Our "chrome" was flaking off our belt line trim as well. We bought a roll of "chrome" pin-striping (likely mylar) and put that over the old chrome. It lasted for about 10 years, but now it needs to be renewed again.
