Futile attempts had been made to fix our OEM bathroom faucet a number of
times. The main problem was that the diverter valve did not effectively
direct flow to the showerhead when that was needed. Instead, most of the hot
shower water was lost down the lavatory sink.
My replacement is a retractable shower/mixer combination, similar to those
used in many residential kitchen sinks. The manufacture is WHALE, part
number WPRT2498. It is not cheap. I got mine at West Marine for $119.99.
Shop around, maybe you can do better. West Marine part number is 442822.

Installation required cutting an almost rectangular opening in the vanity.
After taping the paper cutout template to the vanity, I used a 1" hole saw
at each corner then cut much of the sides of the opening with a saber saw.
To cut close to the back-splash I used a dremel tool with a circular blade.
The new faucet looks good and works quite well. Spray from the new
showerhead is not quite so good as the OEM one (when it was working
properly).
