Here is a guy in BC with a Nissan Leaf that can't buy a replacement battery for it. He has a price of $15,000 for the battery if the Dealer can get
one.

After 45+ years in electronics I can tell you that "No longer supported" is a favorite response when trying to get repair parts. Its right up there
with "Works as designed"... to bad they are rarely designed to work as required.

Until things like batteries get standardized so you can pull into a "Service Station" and have your depleted batteries swapped out for charged
batteries and be back on the road in 20 minutes... I won't be getting too excited about electric vehicles.

Battery replacements as vehicles get older will obviously be an issue for some. A quick search found two places near me that mention they do Leaf battery replacements (one on the island and another in the Lower Mainland) and more across the USA border. As electric vehicles numbers rise - I'd expect more and more aftermarket companies will pick up the slack... Big bucks for battery replacements - I'm sure that will attract some businesses.

On southern Vancouver Island - we have a TON of electric vehicles, with more and more on the roads every day. I've got a few friends with both old and new electric vehicles - I've not heard any of them mention range degradation, one way or the other. One friend has a *VERY* old Leaf (probably older than the one in the article) - I'll have to ask him whether he's had any concerns.

That’s not a bug, it’s a feature!

The Number one late model vehicle being scrapped in the USA is the Prius.

Seems the first replacement battery comes with the subsidy, but not the second one!

The rest of the top ten list is hybrids.

My daughter has a 2014 Prius with over 200,000 miles on it.

This is her second one the first one saved her life when a old man in a large American car( don't remember exactly what it was)
crossed the center and hit her head on the drivers side. It was determined that the man was dead before the accident and the structure of the the
Prius saved my daughter.

Other than tires oil changes and spark plugs the only other thing that's been done is a new wiring harness.

A mouse got into it for a week and ate it.

As far as scraping they made something like 4 million of these so I would expect quite a few have been scraped.

Longterm friend is still driving her first year model on the original battery. I suspect they're like our coaches, using them keeps them in better
sghape than letting them sit.
