Thanks for the info! I called Rick and he was very helpful. Think I have
located a college kid that can make the wheel delivery from San Antonio to
Houston for me....which will give me the best deal on these wheels that I've
found.

BTW: can anyone verify some info I was given.... that I will have to replace the
current wheel studs on the coach with longer ones to accomodate the Alcoas rims?

Tom in the march 1997 isue of GMC Motorhome news from Cinnabar engineering,
page 6, they reiterate the necessity of using the longer studs.

According to Alcoa and Wes Caughlin at Cinnabar, when you change to the
Alcoa wheel you must change the studs. Also, the Alcoa lug nut and washer
combinatyion was designed specifically for the application, so those are
recommended as well.

Be carefull about which wheel you buy - there's more than one Alcoa part
number for a wheel that looks right by the specs. According to Alcoa
customer service and Cinnabar, the 160-231 is the correct wheel.

Does the front take the 160231 and the back 160232?

Thats right Henry but only for the front. 160-132 is the correct number (?)
for the rear

That is what I was told at Sears. They sell them for $140/each. American
Racing Wheels sells Alcoa wheels.

Arch:

I replaced all the wheel studs on my coach in '89, because some of them had
been over-torqued by previous owner(s) or service mechanics. I have a great
deal of respect for a piece of material that needs to be torqued to 250
ft.lbs, and prefer to err on the side of safety! I wasn't able to put on
any longer studs due to limitations imposed by the "curb feelers" (gmc
hub-caps), so I will likely have to change them out again.
BTW, do you have any info on the torque requirements on the aluminium rims?
I ordered some rims out of Discount Tire in San Antonio...hope they come
with some torque instructions, but will have to wait and see!

Interesting market for these rims:
The Houston Discount Tire quoted $160/rim plus $5.50/nuts, $10/cap, while
the D.T. store in San Antonio will ship them to the Houston D.T. store for
for me at $125.99/rim plus $5.50/nut, $8/cap...!
It saves to shop around.

Take care...

Arch,
The proper lug nuts have the torque written right on them, I saw
these in Vegas. It was somewhere around 140-160 ft lbs.Regards, Phil

the price you are quoting for the alcoa rims, nuts and caps would be
$177.99/wheel or $1423.92 for 6. Not a good deal since they are advertised
in GMC international for $1150 complete to include shipping. I have been
quoted $140. wheel by sears.

Nuts should run around $2.00 ea. $5.50 isn't a good deal.
