I'm glad to see that traffic appears to be picking up and we've added
quite a few new subscribers in the past week. Now is probably a good
time to discuss a few mailing list protocol items.
File attachments - The majordomo will not accept attached binary
files(forwarded emails will be accepted). The reason is that these
files are very large(several thousand lines long as opposed to less than
20 lines for the average email) and the majordomo must make as many
copies of the file as there are list subscribers. These files also take
quite a while to download(especially with an older modem connection) and
will probably irritate those who were not interested. If you have a
file to share, announce it on the list and interested persons should
directly request it from you, not through the list.
Quoting replies - When you reply to a posting, please trim your quote to
save bandwidth. There's no need to quote an entire 50 line message when
you're responding to only a couple points. Also please don't quote
signatures. For digest version subscribers, please do not include the
entire digest. Only quote the section you're replying to.
Subjects - Please try to be sure that your subject matches the content
of your post. In long threads, the content often changes. Feel free to
change the Subject header in this event. Digest subscribers should
always change the subject as "Re:GMC Motorhome Digest" probably doesn't
relate to the content.
Manners - This hasn't really been much of an issue yet, but let's just
all try to be nice to each other, Okay
