How do you get behind a 78 refer to clean, inspect, service, safety check? I have a 77 but don’t know why they put louvers for final model year.

John,
I got a door panel similar size and cut the hole in the lower section.
I left the top alone.
When I replaced the refer with the LPG unit I added the top vent on the
roof and left the upper louver as is.

If a rooftop refrigerator vent is installed on a 1978 the upper louver stamped into the aluminum sidewall should be blocked off from the inside.
Otherwise the sidewall vent will act as a short circuit to the airflow. Letting air out the side vent means less air will be moving over the
refrigerator fins. If there's a baffle a maximum of 1" off of the back of the fins, as both Dometic and Norcold specify, blocking the sidewall vent
is less important, but I'd still do it.
