We were supposed to pick up our GMC on 10-2. The owner called me on the
eve before to tell me that, as he took it to town to get fuel and fill the
butane bottle, the engine started clattering real bad. He took it to his
mechanic who said it sounded like either a big chunk of carbon had came
loose off the top of a piston or it had thrown a rod cap. Owner assured me
that he'd have the engine fixed or replaced, whatever it took. Well, it's
been a couple weeks now and his mechanic has gotten covered up by some
important job and hasn't checked the GMC yet.

In the meantime.....

We went and checked out another '77 Royale yesterday. This one was in San
Antonio. The owner agreed thru email to match the $15k price of the one in
Breckenridge and since it had an awning, side bath, and original paint, we
were excited about it. This is the one with the 403 engine, the only
downpoint about it as far as I could tell.

Well, I don't know if ya'll know it or not but it came a dern FLOOD in San
Antone yesterday! That coach was leaking all over more than anyplace else.
I don't think there was one cushion that wasn't wet. Are all GMC's like
this? I haven't looked at any others in a rain storm yet.

The upholstery was dry rotted on all the cushions. Captains chairs ripped
and delapidated. The carpet was in poor condition. I liked the side
'dry' bath with the little shower stall but wife didn't care for it. She
likes the rear bath arrangment better.

The exterior of the coach looked good (it was wet, of course it looked
good) but had a couple dings where something had dented it a little on the
drivers side. We didn't unroll the awning. He said that it hadn't been
unrolled in over 5 years so I doubt that it's in good shape. The coach was
sitting nice and level but he had a little shop air compressor sitting
inside the door so I wonder if it was there to air up the bags.

I started to offer him less for it, to give me some room to make repairs,
but wife said she didn't want that side bath under any circumstances. So
we just spent the day browsing around waiting for the water to go down on
I-10 so we could drive home.
