How much difference is there between the 455ci engine versus the later
403cid?

I've stumbled onto another Royale only this one has a 403 instead of the
455, and it has the side instead of the rear bath.

Also, to look at the floorplans, the coachman side bath appears to be a
'dry' bath. Could someone confirm this?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Not sure about HP and torque, but the 403 is a "small-block"(along with
the 305 and 350) olds engine and the 455 is a "big-block". Never
directly compared the two myself, but understand that the 455 gives
better performance(obvious) while the 403 gets better mileage.

Yep, the Coachman side bath has a little shower stall just forward of
the vanity.

Of interest is that the 403 left exhaust manifold fits the 455.

I have a side "dry bath" and find it very adequate (I'm 6'2" x 260#) and
prefer it to the "wet bath".

I can't help myself...But...the difference is 12 horsepower and the
torque difference will have to be supplied by someone else...but it's
not much.
Twelve hp in my '55VW would make a lot of difference.....in 6 tons
of aluminum, fiberglass, and other "stuff", I don't think one should
get too excited about whether it's powered by a 403 or 455.
Anyway,it's good to have everyone everyone back! Let the debates
begin :)

I have both. Driving the 403 from Nashville, TN to Statesville, NC was not a
problem. The '77 Coca-Cola handled the mountains OK. There is a difference.
But, remember, GMC designed the later homes to operate with a 403. If I have
a choice, I will, of course, take the 455.
