Hi Tom and Marg. So happy to hear you contacted Joe Mondello. He has
written three articles in succession about the rebuild of the 455 in the
past three GMCMM magazines. You might want to get these. The two
engines that failed on me were from Spokane Washington and I was in Salt
Lake City. Barber Oldsmobile did the work. The Motor Works supplied
the motors. One failed at 300 miles and one at 700 miles. I spent 8
thousand dollars on these engines. Not to mention all the grief on my
heart. I am a heart patient, do not do well under stress and spent
weeks in a mental hospital to boot. This mess did not help one bit.
The new engine is great and that is why I spent time talking about it.
I have no problems with the motor at all. Yes it was expensive but it
works. I had to trad a classic HD for it, It was valued at 16K but
when you run out of $$$$ you have to make a choice. I am over 60 and
enjoy the GMC more than the HD. That was a wonderful way to travel when
I was younger and would not trade any of my experiences on two wheels
for anything. I did propably close to 3million miles over the 40 plus
years of riding. One biggie was the Rider education program I got
started for the Air Force. Thanks for listening Chuck
