I'm with you Tom. About 50k miles ago while on I10 in west Texas (100
miles from civilization) the engine overheated so badly I couldn't shut
it down except to put it in gear with the brakes on.
Got towed 100 miles to Odessa, TX where they replaced the fan
clutch, thermostat, radiator cap and the collection (overflo) tank, which
blew to pieces. I never did findout the cause but guessed the fan clutch
hadn't been working 'cause I didn't hear it until after the replacement.
The point is that engine still runs like a fine watch with over 200k
miles on it and that kind of abuse!
