GMCnetters,

Recently a few of you have joked about "GMC mythology" and how the
deeper we delve into some of these topics, the more the "myths" are
exposed. A GMCnetter sent me the following recently requesting that I
forward it on to the group. He wishes to remain anonymous, so I have
edited it slightly, but the basic content is unchanged. There are very
few GMCers around that have owned one of these coaches for 25 years.
The following summarizes the experience of one such owner:

> Dear Patrick,
>
> First of all, let me say how much I have enjoyed reading the net. As
> a definite non-mechanic I don't really have too much to contribute to
> the guys and gals who contribute so regularly and faithfully to the
> net.
>
> But I would like to share a little bit of data for the other
> non-mechanics who might be reading the net and trying to determine
> just where they fit into the GMC family.
>
> This month completes 25 years of GMC ownership for my wife and I and
> it's been a magnificent 25 years.
>
> Needless to say, words are insufficient but my wife won't let the
> coach leave without her...period.
>
> What I wish to share are financial figures for these 25 years in
> order that some others might benefit. .
>
> We bought our first GMC in Nov 73 and our second in Jun 1977. For the
> 25years costs are thus:
>
> Total outlay: Coaches plus all expenditures $123,821.77
> $412.74 mo .595 per mi
>
> Breakdown as follows: 207,609 mi total 693 mi/month
>
> Expenditures include all fuel, maintenance, insurance,
> remodeling, replacement, etc.
>
> All maintenance and refurbishing, etc have been performed by
> local professionals as well as the GMC personalities, such as
> Cinnabar, Golby, Osborn, Gateway, etc.
>
> Breakdowns over the years have been very minor ones, which rarely
> ever delayed our travels.

> Further breakdown is possible but I haven't bothered to isolate and
> compute them separately, although they are all itemized daily,
> weekly, and monthly in my log book.
>
> These figures are not intended to sound like " I told you so" but to
> perhaps help the other "non-mechanics" to realize that the GMC can
> really be enjoyed without being a mechanic which I am most certainly
> not.
