I believe the concern is hub diameter and possibly caliper clearance. The
GMC requires a hub centered wheel so that the weight is not carried on the
studs. Before I purchased my Alcoas, I had purchased an after market alloy
wheel for a Chev dually. The stud pattern was correct and they cleared the
calipers, but the wheel hub diameter was larger than the GMC hub. ALL of
the weight would have been carried on the studs.
I was fortunate in reading a timely article in GMCMM about this very
problem, and with a copy in hand, was able to return the wheels even though
we had mounted the tires. I'm sure they didn't want to be liable once the
hub diameter issue was brought to their attention.
